We seem to always hear about what medications, vaccines, flea control products, heartworm preventatives and other products can do for our pets but quite often we overlook what those products can do TO our pets. Just as with human medications these products do have side effects. All too often we rely on our trusted vets to keep us informed. In fact, we expect our veterinarians to know everything. Is it really possible for any vet to be fully informed about every product and all the latest information regarding each and every one of them? Our pets have evolved into furry family members and our expectations of our vets have evolved too. Perhaps the time has come for the duties of the responsible pet owner to evolve in an effort to keep up with the changing status of our beloved pets.

Many of the links on these pages will lead you to the negative side of pet products. Please don't assume they are all bad. They all have their place and beneficial purpose but perhaps they are being over used and sometimes even abused. For years many of us heard nothing but the good aspects of these products. Now it is time to become educated about the other side. Your pet's life depends on YOU and your ability to make informed decisions. You need to know the negative aspects of the products you use and you need to know the symptoms of the adverse reactions associated with those products.

You have learned about the good aspects of these products so now, please take the time to learn about the risks associated with them. Then you will be able to ask your vet and the staff specific questions instead of relying on them for basic information. Be educated - be an informed consumer so you can get the most out of your discussions with your veterinarian and you can make the best decisions for your pet.
