In February of 2004 a vet insisted on euthanasia because he claimed that he didn't know what was wrong with Mikey yet he refused to speak with one of the worlds' leading veterinary experts who had already agreed to consult with him on this case.

After speaking with one of the worlds' leading veterinary experts I knew Mikey could recover from this. I could not and would not give an order to end his life based on the recommendation of a local small town vet who I felt was not truly dedicated to putting forth the effort to save Mikey's life.

They say cases like this are extremely rare. I think what makes Mikey's case so rare is the fact that he survived.
